Thirty five members tuned in to Synergy’s third webinar in our Attracting and Recruiting a Diverse Group series on Thurs, Aug 25th with Synergy members Angie Simon (Western Allied) and Jay Gilchrist (Hardy) sharing their company’s Heavy Metal Summer Experience.

This year, the Heavy Metal Summer Experience had 11 camps (including Western Allied’s and Hardy’s) with 170 kids all across the country. On the webinar both Angie and Jay shared with their companies did the camp, who was involved, things they’ll do differently next year, and what it’s done to not only expose kids to our industry, but also for the morale and retention of their current team members.

This virtual series featured three sessions to help members develop the skills that every 21st century leader needs to attract others to our amazing industry. On June 30th we kicked things off Gregory to set the foundation with a workshop on Five Tips to Confront the Voice of Unconscious Bias. On July 28th, we heard ideas on How to Recruit Diverse Talent. Finally, this month we concluded our series learning about Western Allied and Hardy’s Heavy Metal Summer Experience program that introduces sheet metal and piping/plumbing trades as a career option to high school aged students. During this screen-to-screen learning series attendees participated in live presentations, breakout groups, and interactive discussions.
