A recent Ask a Peer discussion highlighted one of the biggest advantages of belonging to a trusted peer network: sometimes the most valuable answer isn’t a solution. It’s perspective.
A Synergy member recently reached out to the group after experiencing significant labor pressure in their market. A competitor was offering aggressive compensation packages to attract skilled employees, creating uncertainty about how their company should respond.
The member wanted to know if others were seeing similar challenges and how they were handling compensation, benefits, and employee retention.
While many members reported that labor conditions in their markets remained relatively stable, one contractor immediately recognized the situation. Their company was facing similar pressures due to the rapid growth of data center construction in their region. Demand for skilled labor had increased dramatically, creating competition for technicians and other key employees.
The two members connected directly and compared what they were seeing in their markets. They discussed compensation strategies, employee expectations, and the realities of competing for talent in areas experiencing significant data center growth.
What came out of the conversation was more than a discussion about pay scales.
The member who originally asked the question said the conversation helped validate the compensation and benefits decisions their leadership team was already considering. Just as importantly, it helped them step back and think about the bigger picture.
Rather than chasing every move competitors were making, the discussion reinforced the importance of staying focused on the company’s long-term goals, culture, and values.
It was a reminder that sustainable growth comes from building a business that supports the right employees and the right customers, not simply reacting to market noise.
